Man who saved dog from fire charged with aggravated assault after stopping 4 suspected arsonists. A retired Army veteran was driving home when he saw smoke pouring from a house and heard a dog barking from inside. Without thinking twice, he parked his car and ran straight into the fire. Moments later, he came back out carrying the dog alive. That’s when he said he heard laughing from behind a bush. When he went to look, he found four college-aged men hiding there with gasoline canisters and lighters on them.Outnumbered four to one, he allegedly knocked two unconscious and injured the other two badly enough that they couldn’t run away. Then he calmly sat on the doorstep beside the dog, began petting him, and called police on himself. When officers arrived, he reportedly said, “I’m a good man who did a bad thing to bad people.” Now petitions are growing to have the charges dropped, but as of now, no verdict has been reached.
