A truck driver stopped at a petrol pump to fill his tank. While the fuel was being filled, he stepped away for a few minutes. During that time, the pump worker generated a receipt showing 40 liters of fuel and asked for payment. But the driver became suspicious. He calmly said, “There were already 4 liters in the tank, and when empty, my tank can hold only 32 liters. So how did it become 40 liters?” Instead of explaining properly, the worker argued and pressured him to pay. Since the driver was alone, he paid ₹42,000 and left. But he did not ignore the matter. A short distance later, he called the National Consumer Helpline (1915) and reported the issue. Soon, an inspection team arrived at the petrol pump. They checked the machine and reviewed the CCTV footage. The investigation revealed that a scam was happening and 12 liters of fuel had been falsely added to the bill. As a result, the petrol pump was sealed and fined ₹5 lakh. The driver did the right thing by speaking up and reporting the fraud. His alertness helped expose the scam and may save many other customers from being cheated.
