Biola Adams-Odutayo continues to walk freely and smile today, while Adetunji “Teejay” Opayele a promising young tech entrepreneur and co-founder/CTO of Bumpa lies six feet under. On March 4, 2025, along Ozumba Mbadiwe Road in Victoria Island, Lagos, Biola’s car allegedly collided with Teejay’s power bike as he was riding home from the gym. He reportedly had the right of way, but the impact left him unconscious and bleeding by the roadside. Biola refused to help rush him to the hospital because she did not want blood staining the interior of her car. Instead of showing basic human empathy, she reportedly remained inside her vehicle, on a phone call, while Teejay’s life slipped away. Good Samaritans eventually took him to the hospital, but delays contributed to his death. Teejay was a brilliant, hardworking young man who was building something meaningful within Nigeria’s tech ecosystem. Biola has only been charged with reckless and careless driving causing death and not for manslaughter. And she has since been granted bail of ₦1 million shortly after her arraignment in March 2025 and has remained free ever since. As of April 2026, the trial at the Tinubu Magistrate Court has been repeatedly adjourned. The apparent lack of empathy, combined with privilege and influence, has turned this case into a symbol of everything wrong with how justice often operates in Nigeria.
